Thunder Mountain Fall Festival Preparations Have Begun!

We were excited during the planning phase for our Thunder Mountain Fall Festival happening this October, but now that we've physically gotten some of the preparations underway at our Lake of the Ozarks family attraction, we are ecstatic and giddy with anticipation! The staff here at Bridal Cave and Thunder Mountain Park has already been very busy getting the park decorated, but there's a lot more coming before October gets here. 

We've Added MORE Festival!
We're not the only ones looking forward to our Fall Festival. Due to the large amount of inquiries since we first announced it, we have made the wonderful decision to keep the festival fun open EVERY DAY IN OCTOBER instead of just on the weekends, with bluegrass entertainment and demonstrations added on the weekends. We'd like to extend an extra-special thank you to Camdenton Farm & Garden Center, who is the sponsor for this year's incredible event. 



The Work So Far...
There are a lot of amazing things in the works for you to enjoy once October gets here. Some of the things we have already began working on (which involves a LOT of crafting) are:
  • Fall arrangements
  • Stuffing dozens of scarecrows
  • Unloading and placing over 1,000 pumpkins
  • Laying out the Pumpkin Chunkin' range
  • Building a fire pit area for toasting s'mores (Yum!) 
  • Cutting firewood
  • Construction of a huge corn crib
  • Setting up demonstration areas and a stage for the weekend entertainment
  • Building a Minecraft-inspired hay bale maze (so far we've already used over 600 bales of straw!) 



Supporting Local Business
We are very proud of the fact that all of the produce that will be used to decorate our scenic Lake of the Ozarks attraction has been produced locally by Central Missouri farmers. Not only does it feel great to support local farmers, but we are also able to sell items at greatly reduced prices because of this during the festival. In total, over six semi loads of fall decorations will be used to decorate Thunder Mountain Park. 

Festival Fun
As we mentioned, on the weekends there will be the added excitement of demonstrations and live music. On Saturdays and Sundays you can experience: 
  • Sarsaparilla Making - 9 am - noon
  • Pumpkin Painting Artist - 1-4 pm
  • Live Bluegrass Music - noon - 3 pm

Explore Thunder Mountain Park

The most scenic cave tour in Missouri is surrounded by the natural beauty of Thunder Mountain Park .  This incredible Lake of the Ozarks attraction  covers hundreds of acres.  It spreads over more than a mile of Lake of the Ozraks shoreline, a mile of highway frontage along Old Missouri Route 5, and all the acreage in between.  That is a lot of nature to be explored! Establishing the park Thunder Mountain Park was established in 1950 in order to protect the caves within it.  The amazing colors and incredible onyx formations inside of Bridal Cave  are all formed by minerals from rain water that seeps into the ground. Spend Your Spring Break at the Lake of the Ozarks

It's time for Spring Break! You don't need to travel to some sandy beach to get away from everything. Our scenic Lake of the Ozarks attraction feels lucky to be located in the center of some of the most natural beauty in America. There's no need to travel any further than right here, the Midwest's Coast!  There are buds on the trees and the flowers are beginning to bloom, the fish are biting, and the lake is calling out to us all! Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park are even extending our hours to kick off Spring Break, and we'll be open daily from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm beginning March 11, 2017 . Stalactites & Stalagmites - Which is Which?

Caves in Missouri , as well as around the world, are filled with stalactites and stalagmites.  Everyone has heard of these, but most people have trouble remembering which is which.  Today's Bridal Cave blog will hopefully help you to remember once and for all which one hangs from the ceiling and which one hangs from the floor.  We'll even teach you some interesting facts about how both are formed.   There are a couple of different ways that people use to help them keep these two types of formations straight.  Stalactites are fixed "tight" to the ceiling, and stalagmites "might" trip you when you walk.  Another trick is to use the spelling. StalaCtite has a "C" like the Ceiling from which it hangs, and stalaGmites have a "G" like the Ground they grow on.  You may think these ideas sound corny, but we bet at least one of them will stick with you and you will always remember!
