Labor Day Excitement, Soon Followed By Fall Fun!

Last week's blog gave you a look at what's coming up this week as we head into the "Last Blast of the Summer - Labor Day Weekend!" It's only the ceremonial end to summer, because technically our Lake of the Ozarks scenic attraction has a few more weeks left to enjoy this season. Still, we can't help but begin looking forward to all of the exciting things coming up this fall, both at and near Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park

-Labor Day Weekend
We expect an increase to the already large crowds we see every weekend at the park over the next few days. Regular tours of America's most scenic cave tour will be heading out every few minutes, and we'll be hosting our last Lantern Tour for the season on Saturday night. (Don't worry, they'll be back again next year!)

While you're here, you can take advantage of the great sales we have going on in the rock shop and on all of our sportswear in the gift shop. Grab a snack or enjoy a picnic in our lakeside pavilion before heading out to catch the Labor Day fireworks displays happening all weekend long. There is plenty to do all around the lake area during the upcoming 3-day weekend, but even more coming soon after it too!

11th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest
The lake area is filled with roads surrounded by gorgeous scenery, which makes it the perfect place for a leisurely motorcycle ride, especially this time of year. The weather is cooling off and the leaves will soon be turning all kinds of miraculous colors. Bikefest brings thousands of riders to the lake for those scenic rides, plus concerts, contest, giveaways, parties, and much more. If you'll be taking one of those rides this year, be sure to put a trip to Thunder Mountain Park on your map.

Kids Fishing Derby
The lake attracts lots of fishermen, professionals and amateurs alike. Captain Ron's in Sunrise Beach is hosting their 6th Annual Kids Fishing Derby from 1-3 pm to introduce the younger set to this wonderful outdoor sport. It is open to children ages 2-14, divided into 4 fishing age groups. They'll provide the bait and prizes, you just need to bring your kids along with a life jacket and rod and reel for each. In a few years, they'll be itching to join in the bigger tournaments, like the Big Bass Bash that happens at the Lake of the Ozarks every spring and fall. (The next one is set for October 7-8.)

Lake of the Ozarks Air Show
& Aaron Tippin Concert
The Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport will once again host this incredible day honoring our military, aviation, and more. It takes place from 7:30 am - 4 pm, and just in case, a rain date is scheduled for Sunday, September 24. Bring blankets, chairs, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and anything else you'll need for a full day outside enjoying all the action. There will be multiple acts taking place in the air, as well as plenty to see and do on the ground too. One highlight of the day is the Ping Pong Ball Drop, where hundreds of ping pong balls are dropped out of an airplane and all the kids are let loose to collect them for big prizes. Definitely a day full of family fun!

Later that same evening, Aaron Tippin will be performing at the Ozarks Amphitheater, and they are offering free parking to anyone with proof that they already paid for parking at the air show! (Parking at the airport is $10, or you can catch a free shuttle to the air show from Camdenton High School.) If you decide to make a full day of both events, remember that you can always get your Ozark Amphitheater concert tickets at Bridal Cave while you're here! If you take your cave tour the day after the concert, show your concert ticket and get 25% off of your Bridal Cave admission.

-Saturday, September 30
Pumkin Chunkin' Palooza
The Ozarks Amphitheater is also hosting this spectacular annual event. From 10 am - 6 pm, you can take part in lots of fall fun for all ages, including pumpkin decorating contests, live music, bounce houses, carnival rides, face painting, games, and much more! There will also be Missouri craft beer and wine tastings on-site. Of course, don't forget all about the main event! A trebuchet will be catapulting pumpkins across the sky hourly, all day long. Tickets are $5 for kids ages 5-12, $8 for anyone ages 13 and up, or you can purchase a family pass for $20. Proceeds will benefit Raising Hope, the Osage Senior Center, Lake Area Industries, and the Children's Learning Center.

-Weekends in October
Thunder Mountain Fall Festival
Every weekend this October, our family fun Lake of the Ozarks attraction will be hosting our very own fall festival full of excitement! (Click the link for more details!) The everyday wonders of Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park will be joined by tasty autumn treats (pumpkin fudge, s'mores, caramel apples, and more,) duck races, a hay bale maze, corn crib, Hay Bale Mountain, and so much more! We'll even have demonstrations of sarsaparilla making and pumpkin painting, as well as incredible live entertainment, plus take home your own pumpkin from the thousands that will be lining our Pumpkin Trail.

-More Fall Festivals
The lake area hosts lots of awesome fall festivals every year. Here are a few that you may want to add to your calendar.

  • 32nd Annual Turkey Festival in Eldon - Sept. 30
  • 38th Annual Olde Tyme Apple Festival in Versailles - Oct. 7
  • 17th Annual Osage Beach Fall Festival - Oct. 14
  • Apple Butter Days Fall Festival in Linn Creek - Oct. 20-21

So you see, the "Last Blast of Summer" isn't the end of the fun to be had here, but only the beginning! There are lots of reasons to take a trip to the lake area in the fall. The weather is still wonderful and there's plenty to see and do. Our Lake of the Ozarks family attraction is open year-round, so each time you're in the area, swing by Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park. We're just a part of the amazing things this area has to offer people of all ages. Family Fun... As It Should Be!
