Fun Activities for Kiddos at Bridal Cave!

We pride ourselves on providing the most fun for families, adults, and children! From our amazing rock shop, to gemstone mining, and to all of our great learning opportunities about caves- we have it all! In this blog, we are going to go over some of the best activities for kiddos at Bridal Cave!

Gemstone Mining
Our gemstone mining is one of our best and favorite attractions we offer! Both children and adults have so much fun when they participate in this activity! This experience can be added to any reserved tour! 
Each child is provided a bag of mining rough and gets to pan for minerals! Some of the semi-precious minerals they can find are:
  • Emeralds
  • Fools Gold
  • Amethyst
  • Garnets
  • Sapphires 
Plus, each child will get to keep all the treasures they find, meaning they get to keep a little piece of Bridal Cave fun with them as a souvenir! 

Rock Shop
We have a unique rock and mineral shop specializing in rocks, minerals, gemstones and educational materials for rock hounds of all ages! 
Children especially love the variety of rocks and minerals that they can explore and pick their favorites to take home!

Educational Information
In-person and online, Bridal Cave offers fantastic activities for children! We have an entire page dedicated to learning about caves, geologists, cave safety, bats, and so much more!

Explore Thunder Mountain Park

The most scenic cave tour in Missouri is surrounded by the natural beauty of Thunder Mountain Park .  This incredible Lake of the Ozarks attraction  covers hundreds of acres.  It spreads over more than a mile of Lake of the Ozraks shoreline, a mile of highway frontage along Old Missouri Route 5, and all the acreage in between.  That is a lot of nature to be explored! Establishing the park Thunder Mountain Park was established in 1950 in order to protect the caves within it.  The amazing colors and incredible onyx formations inside of Bridal Cave  are all formed by minerals from rain water that seeps into the ground. Spend Your Spring Break at the Lake of the Ozarks

It's time for Spring Break! You don't need to travel to some sandy beach to get away from everything. Our scenic Lake of the Ozarks attraction feels lucky to be located in the center of some of the most natural beauty in America. There's no need to travel any further than right here, the Midwest's Coast!  There are buds on the trees and the flowers are beginning to bloom, the fish are biting, and the lake is calling out to us all! Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park are even extending our hours to kick off Spring Break, and we'll be open daily from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm beginning March 11, 2017 . Stalactites & Stalagmites - Which is Which?

Caves in Missouri , as well as around the world, are filled with stalactites and stalagmites.  Everyone has heard of these, but most people have trouble remembering which is which.  Today's Bridal Cave blog will hopefully help you to remember once and for all which one hangs from the ceiling and which one hangs from the floor.  We'll even teach you some interesting facts about how both are formed.   There are a couple of different ways that people use to help them keep these two types of formations straight.  Stalactites are fixed "tight" to the ceiling, and stalagmites "might" trip you when you walk.  Another trick is to use the spelling. StalaCtite has a "C" like the Ceiling from which it hangs, and stalaGmites have a "G" like the Ground they grow on.  You may think these ideas sound corny, but we bet at least one of them will stick with you and you will always remember!
