Amethyst Traits

Amethyst is a semiprecious stone that can credit its beautiful color to irradiation, iron impurities, and the presence of trace elements. Its name comes from the Ancient Greek: "a" meaning "not" and "methystos" meaning "intoxicated."

Greeks used to make drinking vessels adorned with this stone, believing that it would keep them from becoming intoxicated. This violet quartz gemstone is also believed to bring about serenity, peace, courage, happiness, pain relief, enhanced psychic abilities, and much more.

Amethyst Cathedral Quality

When buying an Amethyst Cathedral, several factors help in deciding how much to spend on a crystal.

  1. Color: The darker, brighter, and/or more vivid the purple generally means a more expensive crystal.
  2. Uniformity of Color: Even coloring throughout the crystal gives it a higher grade.
  3. Size: The larger the crystal, the more it is worth.
  4. Material: Calcite and other secondary crystals add value to an Amethyst Cathedral.
  5. Uniformity of Shape: Crystals having nice symmetry usually have a higher value.
  6. Metaphysical Applications: This one may be considered subjective to some. The energy of the crystals (as mentioned above) is of very high importance.
