12th Annual Bikefest at Lake of the Ozarks!

It's that time of year for another Bikefest to roll through the Lake of the Ozarks. This year, the 12th Annual Bikefest will take place September 12-16, 2018. Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from all across the United States will spend a few days taking in some of the most scenic rides in the country. From concerts, extreme motocross, and much more you won't want to miss the chance to ride your bike to one of the biggest events of the year at the Lake of the Ozarks. Bikefest Passport Program 

Do you want your chance to WIN a 2017 Harley Davidson FXDL 103 Dyna Low Rider Motorcycle? Take the ultimate scenic cruise through the Lake of the Ozarks and hit up all of the Passport Locations during the course of Bikefest! Once you have a stamp for every location, turn your passport in for your chance to win. A $20 entry is a donation and you can fill out multiple passports. The most scenic cave tour in Missouri is surrounded by the natural beauty of Thunder Mountain Park .  This incredible Lake of the Ozarks attraction  covers hundreds of acres.  It spreads over more than a mile of Lake of the Ozraks shoreline, a mile of highway frontage along Old Missouri Route 5, and all the acreage in between.  That is a lot of nature to be explored! Establishing the park Thunder Mountain Park was established in 1950 in order to protect the caves within it.  The amazing colors and incredible onyx formations inside of Bridal Cave  are all formed by minerals from rain water that seeps into the ground. It's time for Spring Break! You don't need to travel to some sandy beach to get away from everything. Our scenic Lake of the Ozarks attraction feels lucky to be located in the center of some of the most natural beauty in America. There's no need to travel any further than right here, the Midwest's Coast!  There are buds on the trees and the flowers are beginning to bloom, the fish are biting, and the lake is calling out to us all! Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park are even extending our hours to kick off Spring Break, and we'll be open daily from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm beginning March 11, 2017 . Stalactites & Stalagmites - Which is Which?

Caves in Missouri , as well as around the world, are filled with stalactites and stalagmites.  Everyone has heard of these, but most people have trouble remembering which is which.  Today's Bridal Cave blog will hopefully help you to remember once and for all which one hangs from the ceiling and which one hangs from the floor.  We'll even teach you some interesting facts about how both are formed.   There are a couple of different ways that people use to help them keep these two types of formations straight.  Stalactites are fixed "tight" to the ceiling, and stalagmites "might" trip you when you walk.  Another trick is to use the spelling. StalaCtite has a "C" like the Ceiling from which it hangs, and stalaGmites have a "G" like the Ground they grow on.  You may think these ideas sound corny, but we bet at least one of them will stick with you and you will always remember!
