HUGE Announcement! We Need YOUR Help!

As many of you have heard we recently acquired the old Der Essen Platz restaurant at the top of Thunder Mountain. The old building is currently being remodeled and we have plans to make this an intimate event center for wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, family reunions and business meetings. The new design will be a Cracker Barrel inspired décor featuring memorabilia from Lake of the Ozarks, Ha Ha Tonka and Bridal Cave, and of course the million dollar view of the Big Niangua Arm of Lake of the Ozarks. Tentative plans are for a January 2019 grand opening.

Resturant History

As part of this transition, we are collecting history on the area mentioned above. Here is a little bit of the approximate history of the restaurant:

Built in the 1950’s the building opened as Red’s Roost and was known for the Thunder Mountain burger, chili dogs, and handmade shakes.

In the late 70’s it became Thunder Mountain Café as Brian and Betty Woodruff purchased the restaurant. Many may remember the early morning breakfasts in celebration of Groundhogs Day.

Sometime in the early 80’s, the building was remodeled and opened as Thunder Mountain Country Inn by Charlie and Hilde Baer and featured a famous German Cuisine.

Then in the 90’s the restaurant was sold and became Baron’s Bistro. Baron, the proprietor, was famous with the locals for his personality and of course the food, which was French inspired.

And finally, in the restaurant's colorful history it reopened as the Der Essen Platz German Restaurant and remained under the direction of Daniel and Noelle until the fall of 2017. The staff here especially remembers Noelle’s homemade streusel.

We Need Your Help!

Here is where we need your help. We are looking for any or all old pictures of the restaurant. Inside or out. Old menus or ads. Old signs, etc. Or any information you may be willing to share with us with hopes to use the items collected in the interior design. You may send photos to our email at info@bridalcave.com or give Steve or Lindsey a call at 573-346-2676.

We are excited to restore the old restaurant building and keep the history of this building alive. With such a long-standing history, when we heard the building was for sale we knew we needed to create something spectacular while still keeping the history of the building and the Lake of the Ozarks. We hope that by creating an event center in Camdenton, Mo folks locally as well as from out of town can continue to use this building to create their own memories and continue the rich history of this building. Don't forget to send your friends at Bridal Cave any pictures or information you may have about the past restaurants. Stay tuned for the announcement of our official grand opening for Thunder Mountian Park Event Center!
