Fun Fall Festivals Near Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park

It's almost time for our Thunder Mountain Park Fall Festival! (You can see the evidence of it all over the park already!) While all the autumn-themed fun doesn't officially start until October 1st, there are a couple of other exciting events happening near Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park to keep you entertained until then. Both of these annual events are well worth taking the time to check out!

-Saturday, September 23
Lake of the Ozarks Air Show
This awesome event honors our military, aviation, and more with a day full of exciting acts, both in the air and on the ground. It takes place at the Camdenton Memorial Lake Regional Airport from 7:30 am - 4 pm. (If it's rained out, the event will take place on Sunday, September 24 instead.)

Parking is available at the airport for $10 per vehicle, or you can park at Camdenton High School for free and take the shuttle running from 8 am - 3:45 pm. Bring along blankets, chairs, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and anything else you might need to enjoy the show on a nice, fall day. You may not bring outside food and drinks, but there will be concessions available, and no coolers are allowed on the grounds. Also, leave your pets at home for this one. Only service dogs will be allowed.

As for the entertainment, get ready to see magnificent feats of daring in the air, and on the ground too. There will be vendor booths and static displays to check out, plus live entertainment. Many different types of planes will be showing off what they can do in the air, and some will even be racing super-fast cars on the ground. The Free Fall Express Skydivers will make an appearance, and the kids will be able to win fun prizes by picking up one of the hundreds of ping pong balls being dropped on the field from above. This year there will also be a kids' area to play in. They can bounce all day from 10 am - 4 pm for only $5 per child, and if you pay for 2 children, you can get a third child's admission for free.

-Saturday, September 23Aaron Tippin Concert
Following the air show, Ozarks Amphitheater will feature Aaron Tippin in concert. Doors will open for a tailgate party at 5 pm, and the show begins at 6:30 pm. If you show your parking receipt from the Air Show, you'll get free parking for the concert! Don't forget, you can always pick up Ozark Amphitheater concert tickets in the gift shop at Bridal Cave before the show, and if you take a cave tour the day after the concert & bring in your ticket, we'll give you 25% off of your Bridal Cave admission!

-Saturday, September 30
Pumkin Chunkin' Palooza
Ozarks Amphitheater will also be the site for the Pumkin Chunkin' Palooza from 10 am - 6 pm the following weekend. The 4 Lake of the Ozarks Rotary clubs have organized this event to raise money for local charities, clubs, and non-profit organizations. Admission prices are $8 for anyone age 13 or older, $5 for children ages 5-12, and Family Passes are available for $20 each. Kids under 5 may enter for free.

The main event is centered around the giant trebuchet, which is a machine that was used in medieval times to hurl stones or other large objects at their opponents. For this event, one was built to chuck pumpkins far and wide, just for fun!

It's quite a sight to see. There are also lots of other fun events planned throughout the day for both kids and adults. These include: face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, bounce houses, a corn crib pit, on-site pumpkin decorating, Missouri wine tastings, craft beers, food vendors, and more. There will even be a largest pumpkin contest. You can enjoy an awesome day full of fall fun and donate to some worthwhile causes at the same time!

And then...
The next day, October 1, is the official opening day for our Thunder Mountain Park Fall Festival. We gave you sneak peek at the preparations already under way in last week's blog, but just to refresh your memory, here is some of what we're planning for everyone, every day in October:

  • Fall Treats (pumpkin fudge, a caramel apple bar, rock candy, hot cider, red hot cider snow cones, hot chocolate, and more)
  • Fire pits and s'mores
  • Face painting
  • Duck Races
  • Jumbo tic-tac-toe
  • Bean bag toss
  • Corn crib
  • Hay bale maze and hay bale mountain
On the weekends, we'll also have live bluegrass music from noon - 3 pm. There will be sarsaparilla making from 9 am - noon, and a pumpkin painting artist from 1 - 4 pm.

So right there you've got 2 full weekends of family fun to take advantage of before the grand opening of our very own Lake of the Ozarks fall festival. Take this time to enjoy the season with the people you love, and make sure to bring them to hang out with us at Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park for lots of Family Fun... As It Should Be!
