You can take a new car home!
After eyeing all of those gorgeous automobiles, how would you feel about having one of your own? The Lake Ozark Daybreak Rotary is raffling off a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. For only $20 per ticket, that gorgeous car could be yours. The chances are pretty good because they are limiting ticket sales to 2,500. It will be given away on Saturday evening, but you don't have to be present to win. Tickets are available now at Hy-Vee and Kwik Kar, both in Osage Beach, and Hulett Automotive in Camdenton.

Weekend Schedule

The 2016 Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals is open from noon to 5 pm on Friday, followed by music provided by Cool 102.7 late into the evening.

On Saturday, show hours are from 8 am - 6 pm. There is a Make-N-Take Model Event starting at 10 am, and at 5 pm there will be poker run and raffle winners announced, along with the winner of that new Chevy Camaro. The evening will once again wrap up with music from Cool 102.7.

Sunday is the final day for the car show. (And don't forget, this falls on Mother's Day!) Show hours are from 8 am - 1 pm. At the close of the show, awards will be given in various categories at the main stage.

New Emerald Sluice Bags at Bridal Cave

One of the most popular activities at our Lake of the Ozarks scenic attraction is the ability to pan for gemstones in our sluice. Bridal Cave has offered visitors the chance to dump pre-packaged bags of sand (plus a lot more) into our sluice for the past ten years. The beautiful treasures that are found make excellent trip souvenirs.

A sluice is a water channel that is controlled at the head by a gate. When this gate is lifted, water flows down from the water tower through the sluice. The clear, pristine water is perfect for filling a pan with the contents of our sluice bags and discovering the surprises that are waiting inside.

After a decade of wear and tear from tens of thousands of park guests, our Thunder Mountain Park sluice was in need of a few repairs. Our sluice is manufactured by the Sandy Creek Mining Company out of Fostoria, Ohio. They happened to be in Missouri recently and headed on over as soon as we gave them a call. These guys were fast and efficient. In just two short hours, the boys of Sandy Creek replaced about four feet of the sluice that had succumbed to the elements. We were able to open it back up to visitors the very next day.

The Bridal Cave gift shop sells "Pay Dirt" and "Lucky Strike" bags, and new this year, we are also offering "Emerald Bags." These feature large, uncut, raw emeralds inside. Other gems that are frequently found inside the sluice bags are:

Amazonite
Amethyst
Apatite
Aventurine
Calcite
Carnelian
Chrysocolla
Citrine
Crystal Points
Fluorite
Garnet
Jasper
Labradorite
Moonstone
Moss Agate
Obsidian
Onyx
Opal
Peridot
Pyrite
Quartz
Raspberry Quartz
Rose Quartz
Rough Agate
Ruby
Sapphire
Septarian
Smokey Quartz
Sodalities
Topaz

Wow! Now that's a lot of different beautiful gemstones lying in wait inside our sluice bags. Right now the weather is ideal for spending some quality time outdoors. Our sluice is set up right outside our gift shop so that while you pan for raw gemstones from around the world, you are able to enjoy the breathtaking view of the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks.

We would like to send out a great big thank you to the awesome crew at Sandy Creek Mining Company. Their handiwork will let us treat tens of thousands more Bridal Cave and Thunder Mountain Park visitors to a fun and enjoyable treasure hunt. This Lake of the Ozarks family attraction is fun for every age. Remember, sluicing's not just for kids! Everyone can grab a bag and pan for gemstones.

White blossoms are the most common, but you will also see pink dogwood trees around Missouri.

The People's Choice for Best Cave is Bridal Cave!

We are often referred to as the best family attraction at the Lake of the Ozarks, and now according to Rural Missouri Magazine's Readers' Choice Awards, Bridal Cave can now claim the title of the Best Cave in Missouri, and they even sent us a certificate to prove it.

Rural Missouri is based in Jefferson City, and the magazine has a circulation of over 550,000, making it the largest paid-circulation monthly publication in the state. Over a 2-month period, the magazine asked their abundance of readers to tell them all about the best eateries, destinations, and activities in Missouri.

Out of the 17 categories that were included in this year's poll, Lake of the Ozarks was named in four of them. Each category lists a 1st-place winner, a runner-up, and an editor's choice award.

BEST CAVE - Bridal Cave
1st Place

The magazine blurb about Bridal Cave in this issue highlights how the ringing of the bell at Thunder Mountain Park is a signal to all within hearing distance that yet another couple has said their vows in our gorgeous stalactite-adorned cathedral. That unique fact about us may have been what tipped us over the top to become #1.

BEST RESTAURANT - Der Essen Platz
Runner-Up

Sitting atop our very own Thunder Mountain with a fantastic view of the Lake of the Ozarks is Camdenton's Der Essen Platz. This local restaurant serves up authentic German, French, and American cuisine, and also features an Italian night once a month. Chef Noelle Ark is a native of France and is famous for her strudels, pies, and cakes.

BEST STATE PARK - Ha Ha Tonka
1st Place

Just a short distance from Bridal Cave is the winner of Missouri's #1 State Park - Ha Ha Tonka. The stunning architecture and breathtaking scenery combined caused the magazine to describe the park as one of the state's most treasured spots. This state park is unique in the number of remarkable geological features that it possesses.

BEST DAY TRIP - Lake of the Ozarks
1st Place

We are proud to be located in the Show-Me-States #1 spot for a day trip - Lake of the Ozarks. Readers raved about the boating, fishing, golfing, shopping, restaurants, state parks, and many amazing attractions that fit every taste and budget.

If you would like to take a look at all of the winners, you can read a digital copy of Rural Missouri Magazine online. Set aside a weekend, or even an entire week, this summer and visit a few of the amazing places on this year's list. You will of course want to start with Bridal Cave & Thunder Mountain Park! Bring a picnic lunch, or visit Der Essen Platz, and make a whole day of it. Thanks to everyone that voted for us. We hope to see all of you in the near future.

Wishes Make Dreams Come True at Bridal Cave

If you have not yet had the opportunity to tour Bridal Cave, then you may not be aware that a visit could make your wishes come true. Located inside our scenic mid-Missouri underground cave is a wishing well. Tens of thousands of visitors pass by our wishing well every year, and most of them can't resist throwing in a coin or two.

After that many people make a wish, the amount of coins at the bottom of the well really starts to add up. Each spring we pump the well dry to remove all of the coins and use them to make one deserving student's wish for a better education come true. All of the money collected goes toward a scholarship fund at Camdenton RIII High School.

Over the past few years we have noticed a new trend. People have started to throw paper money into the wishing well. Hundreds of bills are now being collected along with the massive amount of coins, filling numerous 5-gallon buckets that are carried out of Bridal Cave by hand.

Simply getting those buckets out of the cave is a chore by itself, but the hard work doesn't stop there. After being underwater for a year, many of the coins begin to tarnish. They must all be washed before the bank will accept them. The best way we have found to take care of this task is to toss them into concrete mixers with hot water and a mild detergent.

A&B Rental is kind enough to donate these mixers for us to use, and First National Bank donates their time to count all of the coins. From beginning to end, the entire process of removing, sorting, washing, drying, and counting the money takes up to three weeks!

Now it's time to truly help make someone's wish a reality. Every bit of that hard work is well worth the effort when we are able to grant one deserving Camdenton High School senior with a $1,000 scholarship to the college or trade school of their choice. Since Bridal Cave began doing this in 1969, over one million coins have been collected and over $50,000 in scholarships have been awarded. Past scholarship recipients have gone on to become restaurateurs, accountants, engineers, CAD operations managers, mass communications personalities, teachers, and even chefs.

This is one way that our Lake of the Ozarks scenic attraction gladly gives back to a community that has given us so much love and support. Start thinking now about what you will wish for the next time you visit the wishing well inside Bridal Cave, and the next time you are given a tarnished coin from a cashier, know that there is a good chance that it was from a wish that made someone's dream come true.
